Atenolol

The scientists are trying to fight the arterial hypertension, therefore, there are many of the drugs designed for treatment of this disease. The patient can choose the drug depending only on disease and health state. One of the most effective and popular drugs for arterial hypertension treatment is Atenolol.
Clinical researches have proved the high values of the drug effectiveness. Atenolol is a selective beta-adrenoreceptor blocker in the muscular walls of the heart resulting in low pulsation, reduces myocardial contractility leading to decrease in requirement of myocardial oxygen, thence, in reduction of stenocardia attacks. It renders antiarrhythmic action, due to reduction sinus rhythm, decrease in myocardial excitability and AV-conductivity delay. After Atenolol taking, the risk of hypertensive crises and other cardiovascular diseases decreases in the patient.
Also it has been revealed that after Atenolol use, the number of the survived patients after heart attack is increased, the drug reduces frequency of ventricular arrhythmia and stenocardia development. If administered in standard therapeutic doses, the drug has less expressed effect on: pancreas, skeletal muscles, smooth muscles of peripheral arteries, bronchial tubes and uterus. The safety of the drug is increased.

Atenolol is indicated and applied not only in arterial hypertension, but also in many other cardiovascular diseases, such as: coronary disease, stenocardia, arterial hypertensia, hypertensive crisis, hyperkinetic cardial syndrome of functional genesis, neurocirculatory dystonia of hypertensive type, essential and senile tremor, agitation and abstinent syndrome.
The drug application is recommended to start after consultation with the doctor. Only the doctor can examine you and set the exact diagnosis, begin the treatment. Atenolol dosage and the treatment course depend on the health state and recovery.
Atenolol usually is administered orally, once a day or according to the doctor’s indication. The drug should be taken regularly to achieve the best effect. The drug is inefficient during migraine or stenocardia attack. To achieve the drug effect 1-2 weeks are required. It is very important not to cease the treatment even if you feel well. The drug is recommended before a meal, swallowing whole with water. A standard initial dose is 25-50mg a day. If necessary a dose can be increased in 1 week by 50mg and later to 200mg. Do not discontinue the treatment sharply as it may cause high arterial pressure. Reduce a dose gradually on 1/4 of doses every 3-4 days.
However the drug use depends on contraindications to application. The doctor, considering your health and contraindication, can even forbid Atenolol to you and offer another drug, or reduce Atenolol dosage. Follow the doctor’s recommendations and pay attention at contraindications to avoid any adverse reactions. Do not take the drug if you suffer from stenocardia or other diseases of cardiovascular system (coronary disease, arterial hypertensia).
During long Atenolol investigations it has been revealed that the drug is safe and any serious adverse reactions are rare. Usually during Atenolol treatment under the doctor’s observance any side-effects are not observed in patients.
Atenolol is not an exception because all medications may cause side-effects. During clinical trials it has been revealed that Atenolol may cause the following side-effects: dizziness, sleepiness, weariness, nausea, diarrhea, sleep disorders, blurred vision. If you observe any of the said effects, visit the doctor. Smoking may negatively affect the drug action.
